Mini PC is also called Plug Computer, which is a very small computer in the size of a AC plug or AC adaptor.
A Plug Computer (Mini PC) is a small network-attached computer for small, medium companies and homes. Mini PC is a lower cost and lower power alternative to the regular PC. In effect, a plug computer (Mini PC) is a network appliance that can be built in an AC power plug or AC adapter. Mini PCs are suitable for running a media server, back-up services, file sharing and remote access functions such devices can be used as a bridge between home protocols such as Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) & Server Message Block (SMB or Samba), cloud based services and Mini PBX server.
Early Plug Computers (Mini PCs) in this line began to appear at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show.
On February 23, 2009, Marvell Technology Group announced its plans to build a mini-industry around plug computers (Mini PCs).
The SheevaPlug is one of the first "Plug computers" (Mini PCs) to be available on the market. This Mini PC uses a 1.2 GHz, Marvell Kirkwood 6281 ARM-compatible CPU. The SheevaPlug (Mini PC) comes with Ubuntu 9.04 ARM build, which is a Linux operating system. The SheevaPlug (Mini PCs) has been supported since Linux Kernel version 2.6.27 and is currently shipping with 2.6.30-rc5. Marvell offers a SheevaPlug (Mini PCs) development kit to assist in the development of software for the platform. The development kit includes the GCC cross-compiler for ARM. The device includes a mini USB connector wired to an FTDI FT2232 chip which provides the developer's computer with access to two ports: a JTAG port connected to the internal JTAG bus, and an RS232 port connected to the Kirkwood processor's serial port through which the bootstrap and kernel console can be accessed. This debug console can be accessed from any computer with support for the FTDI bus translator (FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS X, Windows).
